Is India then not Incredible?

SO, Apparently Salman Khan, Bollywood’s Star with a troubled past has just tweeted or retweeted ” Whts India? Nation whr Pizza rchs home Faster thn Ambulance & Police…Whr u get Car Loan @ 5 percent bt Edu Loan @12 percent(sic!). Whr Rice is Rs 40 bt Sim card is free…Whr ppl worship Goddess Durga bt wnt to kill their girl child,” Salman wrote in a post. “Olympic shooter wins gold, govt gives 3crore. Another shooter dies fighting with terrorist, govt pays 1 lakh. Really, Incredible India,””…

so does that mean we can not feel proud of the fact that we are a secular country, a surviving democracy, with a press more free than some developed countries, …a growth rate not too bad and a rising rate of literacy….

it does remind us though that it is here that a Ruchika is molested by a senior Cop and a Jessica Lal is shot dead while she works at a bar and the senior police officials run away because of the publicity, and a Priyadarshini Mattoo is killed by the son of a senior IG of Police, ….it goes on…the bottom line is..we do our duty as a favor and we bestow favors on kith and kin…and for most of us social justice remains something Mahatma Gandhi talked about ….when he thought we were going to be a secular, republic, democracy …with equitable rights for those who had power and rights for those who did not! before the long cavalcades of ‘politicians’ just out of prison and there protectors paid by our tax money…..crushed us…

The writer has in a very profound way bunched up the mounting ironies… truly India is Shining … Indeed you have brought out the ignored obvious… great piece!

Made me think of a very old song from Pyasa picturised on Gurudutt…
‘….jinhe naaz hai hind par woh kahan hain, kahan hain, kahan hain….’

Yes, there is a lot to be proud of about ‘ Mera Bharat Mahan’, but then there is a lot more to be worried about, concerned about and take responsibility for as we try to recreate the magic of INDIA that we all believe in.
