Small town girls big time harassment?

So apparently your phone will ring more with a heavy breathing, crazeeee man on the other side  if you live in Bhubaneswar or Hyderabad than if you lived in Bombay or Delhi!
According to a TOI report,  “One-third of girls across cities reported having received obscene calls or messages” and “77% girls felt eve-teasing was the biggest challenge they faced” outside  and “40% girls coped with harassment by ignoring it ”  These are the findings from a ‘survey study of 10,000 girls from 10 cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Patna, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Pune, Ranchi, Kolkata, Varanasi and Bhubaneswar’.

The revolution of technology and increasing global interface means, anyone can get your phone number and address and no you don’t have to be on Facebook to be a public profile…while on the one hand mobiles are providing ‘over- the- phone’ consultation to patients in rural parts of India and Pakistan. Mobiles are ringing away with lewd and disgusting SMSs that could make life for girls in small towns hell.
There is a harm thesis that says your words can potentially harm people and more so in obscene telephone call (OTC) type of offenses. In our world it also means, a possibility of more intense and permanent harm, where a stalker manages to find the girl’s home and initiates assaults or grievous injury through acid attacks.
What do we need..we need a big and engaged community that watches potential attackers  and  creates an environment of support for the girl and accountability for the culprit…
Oh wait accountability…the kind where we have un-commonwealth landing in the lap of  Kalamadi and Jarnail ….Ha…Ha…Hah..seriously how many people think Kalamdi and Jarnail could get away with keeping the money…this is traveling wealth…and it will go far!
Similarly, how many of us believe that women can or are in a position to tell the men who live in their households…. “keep the damn phone down, you fool! and don’t breathe and bark into it…!”
We wish they could and would!
And we wish we could travel with the wealth to a land of commons who thought of the game and game alone!
